MEXICO CITY, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Studiosus, a leading package tour operator in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, has cancelled all its packages to Guatemala for 2009 and 2010, according to reports reaching here from Guatemala City on Friday.
The Munich-based travel company said in a statement on its website that the decision follows a warning from the German government in March, about repeated killings of bus travelers in the Caribbean nation.
The company also expressed concern about rumors of a possible coup in Guatemala.
In an interview with Guatemala newspaper El Periodico, Gabriel Queche, from the regional tourism chamber in western department Solola, said that "there are very few attacks on tourists, barely any, but most likely we are suffering because of exaggerations."
Studiosus will redirect passengers to other countries in Central America or to Mexico.
